Texas Holdem
Texas Hold'em is a pokergame generally played with a 52 card
deck. Texas Hold'em has become one of the most popular poker
variants today and is played all over the world. Texas Hold'em can
be played even if you are only two friends or if you are eleven.
The ranking of hands in Texas Hold'em is the same as in usual
pokergames, but I will tell you more about this later.
Each hand is played in five "steps" and is broken down as
follows.
Preflop
Each person is dealt two cards face down and the person after the
big blind starts the betting. After everybody has placed their
bet/call/raise/fold the next round follows.
Flop
Three cards are dealt to the middle of the table (the flop). These
cards can be used by all players who are in the pot to complete
their pokerhand. Another round of betting occurs and the player
after the dealer starts betting.
Turn
A fourth card is dealt to the middle of the table, making it a
total of four cards that all players can use, called the turn.
Another round of betting occurs and the player after the dealer
starts again.
River
A fifth card is dealt to the middle of the table, making it a total
of five cards that all players can use, called the river. Another
round of betting occurs and the player after the dealer starts
betting.
Showdown
The players who are left after the last round of betting show their
cards in order from the one who laid the bet first. You use your
two face-down (hole cards) and the five cards on the table to
create the best pokerhand, consisting of 5 cards total. You can
also use only one of your face-down cards and four from the table,
if that gets you the best poker hand.
